Ever wondered why you can't keep those muffler bolts tight! years ago we did some testing on an airframe that we had that we just could not keep the muffler bolts tight. tried every trick in the book even down to lock wiring the bolts and even that didn't help! we noticed that although the engine temps were ok that the exhaust often was really hot, so set out measuring temps and ducting air onto the exhaust itself. no surprise really that in cooling the exhaust, the bolts stayed tight! with the ever expanding and contracting of the hot exhaust the bolts became stretched and eventually loose.

Martin has done a great video here explaining just that after contacting me about the very same problem. looking forward to that beer in summer!

Cooling your exhaust is just as important as the cylinders. Not only does it help stop the mufflers loosening, but a cool exhaust also helps cool the engines cylinders by drawing away the heat - win win!
