KS3086, KS3088 & KS3089 Cannisters – Which One Is Right For Your Engine?

We regularly get asked about the different KS Cannister options and, more importantly, which size is best suited to a particular engine and model.

KS are high-quality, German-made cannister and tuned-pipe systems, designed to provide excellent noise reduction while maintaining strong engine performance. The KS range is available in both front-exit and rear-exit configurations, giving you flexibility when it comes to installation.

Based on our own experience with these systems, here is our guide to the popular KS3086, KS3088 and KS3089 cannisters.

KS3088 – Our Preferred Choice for DA120 & GP123

Of the KS cannisters in this range, the KS3088 has given us the best overall results on the Desert Aircraft DA120 and Great Power GP123.

We have also supplied this combination to a large number of customers, with excellent feedback on the overall running characteristics, performance and noise reduction.

The KS3088 has a 65mm diameter body, giving it a little more capacity than the KS3086.

Where installation space allows, this is generally our preferred choice for engines such as the DA120 and GP123.

KS3086 – When Installation Space Is Tight

The KS3086 has a 60mm diameter body, making it a popular alternative where the larger KS3088 simply won't fit inside the model.

It can be an excellent choice where a narrower cannister is required, while still providing very good noise reduction and performance.

Suitable applications include engines such as:

  • DA60
  • GP61
  • DA120
  • GP123

For larger twin-cylinder engines, the 3086 can also be considered where installation space is particularly restricted.

KS3089 – Ideal for 70–76cc Twin-Cylinder Applications

The KS3089 has a 65mm diameter body and a 30mm pipe connection (de).

This cannister is particularly popular when used with 2-into-1 manifold/header systems on 70–76cc twin-cylinder engines.

Typical applications include:

  • DA70
  • GP76
  • Similar 70–76cc twin-cylinder engines

For these applications, the KS3089 can provide an excellent combination of noise reduction, performance and practical installation.

Header Length – KS3086 & KS3088

For the KS3086 and KS3088, we have found a header length of approximately 250–270mm to be a very good starting point.

A wider range of approximately 220–290mm can also work depending on the engine and installation.

If your model requires particularly short headers, we would generally recommend considering the larger KS3088, where installation space allows.

As always, the final setup will depend on the engine, manifold/header design and the particular model installation.
