One of THE most vital tools in your toolbox if you are serious about big gas motors - no Prop on any plane 100cc and larger should be tightened by hand. Torquing the prop bolts ensures even pressure is applied across the prop hub holding the prop firmly in place. Uneven torque when done by hand can place enormous stress on individual bolts and cause them to fail with severe consequences when in flight.
We have been Torqueing our props for years now and have never had any failure in the time we have been doing so. wood props will compress over time so check these regularly.
5mm bolts - wood props 50 inlbs ( check bolts periodically)
5mm bolts - Carbon props 90 inlbs
6mm bolts - wood props 60 inlbs
6mm bolts - carbon props 100-120 inlbs
